About the Relay For Life of Carthage website

The Relay For Life of Carthage website was created to bring the Relay For Life events in Carthage online. Through this website, people in the area can collaborate on their Relay Fundraising and Events, share photos and memories, and track their progress in their walk with the Relay For Life.

It is the primary goal of this website to create an "local" online community of Relay Supporters, whether they be Survivors, Team or Committee Participants or anyone else in the Community. Everyone is welcome to join us in our Celebrating, Remembering and our Fight Back against Cancer.

Meet The Creator of the Relay For Life of Carthage's Website

This website was created in 2007 by Michael Lackey. He wanted to create something that was dedicated solely to his local Relay event and something that contained all the useful information a Team Captain or Participant could ever need. It was that idea that sparked this website. For the 2012 Relay For Life, the website was revised to its current state to further enhance the functionality and capabilities of its predecessor. Michael continues to tinker with the website and the programming behind it.

Michael graduated from Missouri Southern State University in 2004 with a Bachelors Degree in Information Technology and an Associates Degree in Network Administration. Through these degrees, and his experience as an I.T. Technician with Leggett & Platt, he developed a passion for web design and development and enjoys a good challenge. Over the years, he has designed several business websites for area businesses including On Target Archery, The National Golf Academy, and of course his own website/business 2 Geeks.

Michael has been an active participant in the Relay For Life for many years. 2011 marked his sixth year as a Planning Committee Member and his ninth year as a Team Captain, yet he has been participating for many more years than that. He became involved when his former neighbor invited his mother, Sally Lackey, a two time breast cancer survivor, to attend the Relay. He has been attending and participating ever since.

Cancer has touched Michaels life through many people: his mother, sister, father-in-law and several other family members and close friends. It is for them that he Relays.

In May 2008, Michael and his wife, Christina, became the proud parents of their first daughter, Lilian. Lily was there for the 2008 Relay at just three weeks old. She has been present at every Relay since. When the 2011 Relay came around, she was joined by her new little sister Vivian. With the birth of his two daughters, Michael's reason to relay has shifted slightly. He now also Relays for them, so that they might never have to hear those words, "you have cancer."

Michael is currently employed by Machine Products, a branch of Leggett & Platt. He has been with the company since February 2000, most of which has been spent as the IT person in charge of the network and computers. He spends a lot of time doing programming, web design and programming for internal websites and lots of other various projects.

When not at work, Michael spends his time doing extra computer work and repair, more web design, video gaming and, of course, chasing after Lily and Vivian.
